"As a writer, you try to listen to what others aren't saying...and write about the silence."
~ N.R. Hart
I am NOT a paranormal investigator. Not a psychic, tarot card reader, or clairvoyant. I'm barely intuitive and hardly a street magician (though magic is definitely real!). Sorry, if that’s what you were searching for...
I will admit, though, that I wish every other Friday were Halloween, and that I do have an uncanny ability to turn a twisted phrase or conjure a haunting image because I write quirky stories that reflect the strangeness of the human condition. But why the beguiling moniker? Aside from the obvious fact that it’s rad, Irving actually refers to Washington Irving, America’s first man of letters, and his ghost is this weird little chatter in my head that often guides pencil across paper and inspires my narrative voice. It’s a metaphor, of course…or is it? Does anyone really know what a metaphor is, or whether the prattle in my skull is real? Can you hear it? The metaphor, I mean.
Now that you’ve discovered the gist of the banner, it seems anticlimactic, but hopefully not disappointing. Please bear with me; I’ve got a few interesting thoughts on the pages of this website, some of which might unnerve you, and many that might humor you. My characters are larger than life, but oddly familiar. Their problems are our problems, and what makes them tick is exactly what motivates every one of us, even if we hesitate to admit the shady truth of our deep insides.
C’mon, your reasons for being you aren’t that weird, are they? Yes! Humans are totally eccentric in one way or another. This musical would be all flats and trombones if we weren’t! (FUN FACT: Normal people are rare and certifiably boring, but like Bigfoot, they do exist.)
Anyway, thanks for dropping by, even if you feel bamboozled. If you were purposely looking for me, here I am. If you just happened to stumble across this site, stick around for a minute. Maybe your wanderings will prove serendipitous, since no one’s ever really lost.
No matter how you got here, however, you’re welcome. Take that any way you’d like…
